Trust our dive service to restore your boat hull with precision and care.
At Subsurface Restoration, we specialize in underwater restorations. We clean boat hulls of all types, including fiberglass, aluminum, and wooden boats at your slip. We clean boat lifts and other underwater structures. We also preform dive services for marinas, aquariums and pools. Our team of experienced divers have the expertise to handle any job, big or small.
Boats - We will always use the least abrasive materials possible to clean your vessel’s hull and running gear. This will keep your bottom paint as safe as possible and extend the time between haul-outs.
We will also strive to deliver honest and accurate reports about the condition of your vessel below the waterline. This includes the condition of your bottom paint, damage to your hull or running gear and the life of your zincs.
For customers on regular cleaning schedules, zincs will be changed only when necessary to avoid gratuitous costs and corrosion.
Aquariums - Preserving the fragile ecosystems found in commercial aquariums is critical, so the process of cleaning them must be minimally invasive to marine life. At the same time, visitors to aquariums expect crystal clear windows and clean interior walls. Our battery powered tools are very quiet with no noisy equipment or hydraulic hoses. Subsurface Restoration won’t disturb aquatic life and because our tools are completely sealed and self-contained, they won’t introduce oils, grease or hydraulic fluids into very delicate marine environments.
Pools - Commercial swimming pools and waterparks are bombarded with all sorts of contaminants, introduced by both the surrounding outdoor environment and swimmers. Windblown dirt and debris, body oils, sunscreen and perspiration all tax a pool’s sanitation system. Filters and chemical sanitizers do a great job of keeping the water clean and free from particulate matter, but scum and mineral deposits at the waterline and algae on other pool surfaces inevitably require periodic cleaning. Much of this maintenance work is done with hand-held bushes and pads. We have the ideal tool to quickly and easily clean tile, fiberglass and plaster surfaces. The SubsurfacePro team is always working to expand our expertise and knowledge of the cleaning process to give you the best possible outcome.
All boat owners who keep their boats in the water for any length of time - whether in a slip, on a mooring, or on a trailer during the winter - are painfully aware of the need to keep their boats’ hull clean.
There are two basic ways to remove light to moderate biofouling. The less expensive and quicker method is to dive the boat regularly while it is in the water, done by a commercial diver. Using a series of electric brushes, scrapers or abrasive pads, the diver can effectively remove marine growth. In addition to hull cleaning, a professional diver can also perform other important maintenance functions.
The other way to clean a boat hull is to remove the vessel from the water and pressure wash its hull. This process is much more expensive and time-consuming, and is typically done only when the boat is hauled for repair or for the application of new anti-fouling paint.
At Subsurface Restoration, we pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service.

With a smoother and cleaner hull, you’ll enjoy an increase in fuel efficiency, a reduction in drag, and better overall handling.
Modern anti-fouling paints promise a hull free of marine growth for one to several seasons. But in nutrient-rich water and as the paint becomes expended, barnacles and green stuff take hold, slowing us down, increasing fuel consumption under power, and degrading handling.
For all of the money spent on special props and new sails, and attention paid to perfect sail trim, no single factor is more important than a clean bottom. To combat this, racers use hard, scrubbable paints and scrub the bottom every two weeks.
If a cruiser with soft paint followed that rhythm, his paint would be dispersed far and wide within a few months. For these and other reasons, different methods are required.
Soft (aka ablative or self-polishing) paints hold the promise of self cleaning, but this is primarily true only for boats that are vigorously sailed (over 7 knots), the minimum required to cause a little surface wastage. Even then, in high fouling waters and towards the end of the useful life of the paint, growth begins to appear. But we don’t want to scrub the paint off, wasting money and releasing excess copper into the environment.
Single season paints will generally make it through a summer without cleaning, at the cost of increased paint build-up and annual haulings. However, if you keep the boat in the water year-around, multi-season paints are the better value.
Additionally, our experience with multi-season soft paints is that if they are extended to maximum life with occasional scrubbing toward the end, followed by moderate sanding between applications, build-up and adhesion problems are minimized, and stripping can be delayed for 30 years or more.
But this requires really using up the paint. Yes, cleaning may release some copper, but by stretching painting from 2 years to 3 years, have we not reduced the amount of copper released by 1/3? This is one time when the motivations of the EPA and the parsimonious boat owner should be aligned.
